Mobile Communications - Primax Shifts from DSC to Modules
October 21, 2004
Primax has announced that it will be pulling out from the DSC (Digital Still Camera) segment, focusing more heavily on camera modules, multi-function printers, and high-end scanners. The maker experienced strong profitability from DSC in 2003, yet mounting competition and lower than expected orders from Japanese players has resulted in low profitability.

Pointing to certain weaknesses in their supply chain, the company has also stated that DSC sales have been lower than anticipated. Primax's 2004 target has been pushed from three million units to 2.5 million units.

The company will also be cutting down the scale of its LCOS optical engine production lines, citing a slowdown in activity by leading LCOS players.
